Correct Weight - More then a weigh bridge!
Correct Weight - More then a weigh bridge!
For almost 20 years I have worked within the road transport, freight and logistics sector. It’s the most regulated group on our roads today and for good reason, overloading is dangerous. These days our heavy vehicle industry, taxi trucks and couriers are very compliant with State and National compliance.
A sharp increase in accidents involving caravans has not gone unnoticed by the State and National authorities and as a result, have now started to run roadside safety inspections for compliance.
This is where I crossover!
For as long as my professional career, I have been a keen camper, 4-wheel driver and nowadays a caravaner. I have towed most types of trailers during this time and there’s a compromise when it comes to towing and in particular, large caravans. Not all towing combinations are compatible and exceeding the manufactures ratings is no different to our heavy vehicle industry exceeding theirs, it’s dangerous. Taking someone’s 'word' or 'she’ll be right mate' can land you in all sorts of trouble, I can say this due to personal experience.
Thankfully that mistake didn’t end in disaster, but instead, led me to using my professional knowledge and taking a keen interest in weight compliance for the recreational sector. Every towing combination has its own specific set of ratings and navigating your way around this can be confusing at best, for the uninitiated. Public weigh-bridges are designed for trade. A 'weigh-in – weigh-out' approach and not particularly suited for weighing caravan/trailer combinations, nor do they have the time necessary to complete this task properly.
And here’s where things get interesting!
Caravan sales have surged and evolved from a tiny 'bed on wheels' to large well appointed 'luxury apartments'. Our desire to have all these great features ultimately adds weight, and as I touched on before, not all combinations are compatible. An overloaded or poorly loaded caravan/trailer can become very dangerous very quickly and could result in an accident, putting you and other road users’ safety at risk. Industry statistics show weight is one of the major contributing factors involving caravan rollovers.
That is why Correct Weight Mobile Vehicle Weighing was launched, to help shed some light on the industry details that face todays drivers. By bringing the 'weigh-bridge' to you, we can make it an easy, friendly experience, so you can enjoy what matters most to you.
